The iPhone SE has long held a reputation as Apple’s budget-friendly option, maintaining a strong presence on lists of the best affordable phones. As the anticipation builds for the iPhone SE 4, recent leaks suggest significant enhancements that make the upcoming model highly appealing, despite its expected release in 2025.
A recent leak on Twitter by Nguyen Phi Hung has provided a glimpse into what the iPhone SE 4 might offer. According to Hung, the new model will bring substantial improvements over the iPhone SE (2022), which is crucial for Apple to stay competitive in the mid-range market against phones like the Nothing Phone 2, OnePlus 12R, and Pixel 7A.
One of the standout features of the iPhone SE 4 is its display. The new model is rumored to feature a 6.1-inch LTPS OLED screen, a significant upgrade that will enhance the visual experience with better color accuracy and contrast. However, the display will have a 60Hz refresh rate, which might disappoint some users since other budget phones, such as the Galaxy A35, offer higher refresh rates like 120Hz.
Design-wise, the iPhone SE 4 is expected to have a front and back glass design, moving away from the Ceramic Shield used in other iPhone models. Hung suggests the front will resemble the iPhone 13, while the back will look more like the iPhone XR due to its single camera setup.
The camera on the iPhone SE 4 will see some intriguing updates. Despite having a single rear camera, the phone will support 1080p cinematic mode, a feature typically requiring dual cameras to create a depth effect by distinguishing people from backgrounds. This capability hints at the integration of advanced AI techniques, which are anticipated to be a significant component of iOS 18. Other camera features include smart HDR, AI photography, and portrait mode. However, it will not support night mode, which could be a drawback for users who often take photos in low-light conditions.
Internally, the iPhone SE 4 will boast the A16 Bionic chipset paired with a Snapdragon X70 modem, marking a considerable performance upgrade. The processing power of the A16 Bionic, combined with an increase to 6GB of LPDDR5 RAM (up from 4GB in the current model), should deliver a smooth and efficient user experience.
Storage capacity is another area where the iPhone SE 4 makes significant strides. The base model will start at 128GB, a much-needed improvement over the 64GB offered by the current iPhone SE (2022). For users with higher storage needs, a 512GB option will also be available. Interestingly, there is no mention of a 256GB variant, which could create a notable gap in pricing between the 128GB and 512GB models.
The iPhone SE 4 is shaping up to be a compelling upgrade in the budget smartphone segment.
